Title: God’s keeping Power
My Christian walk began in 1996 when I was only 15 years old and in secondary school. Four years later I received a scholarship to pursue tertiary education overseas. In hope of obtaining some guidance and some tips as to what to expect, I approached the only person I knew that had successfully completed the course I intended to pursue.
Our conversation was short but the most impacting thing that this individual had to say to me was …. “every person who goes away to study must compromise and further went on to say that no matter what background the individual had the stress of studies and the characteristics of the society made it necessary to find a sexual outlet”
This news was very disappointing to me and after pondering a while, I said to myself; “it may have been that way up to now, but I refuse to follow that trend. I am gong to be different. If no other person would maintain sexual purity, I would. I had already been acquainted with God’s ability to restore, but this time around, I wanted to prove his capacity to keep that which I was surrendering to him. I prayed that God would help me to be an example of what I desired to see… not to wish for someone else to do it for me, but that I’d be the one to do it for other. When the time came to depart, knowing that I was about to pace what was deemed by some a 7 year sentence, I did no take what I was getting into lightly . I knew that I had a purpose to accomplish which was more than just excelling at my studies.
Those 7 years were challenging. Like my “mentor” said, folks were compromising all around me. But God was faithful. He made me realize that he still is the God of Daniel. That his power to keep his people in the harshest conditions is still intact. I thank God that he was the one who kept me faithful to hi. He and no one else was present in trying times giving me the strength to remain true to him. He made me realize just how valuable I am to him. Also he has been faithful enough to honor the sacrifices I chose to make for him.
God is Holy; he still requires holiness from us in body, mind and soul. It may be that you are going through what seems to be the wilderness, but God is there keep your eyes focused on him and remember that you are just going through. On the contrary you may have just gone through your wilderness like I have and you have stepped into your Canaan; the land of abundance. Please don’t let your guards down now. You don’t want to fail in the place where all conditions are favorable. But it is possible. If for one moment you forget who you are, whose you are, or lose focus, you may well fall prey to that which you were so be cautious while traveling through the wilderness. Trust in the Lord He is able to restore you if you give him a chance to prove himself to you. I promise you won’t regret it … ever!
God is indeed a God of miracles.
