Every believer has a unique story of encountering Christ and here is mine. I grew up as a young boy in a religious family. I attended church almost every Sunday as my parents directed. As I became an adult and started making my choices, I chose the path of disbelief, sin, destruction, and death. I started reading Charles Darwin's theory of evolution and truly believed that life evolved; the evidence was there. My friends at work, Keith and Michael told me of a God they serve that was greater than Darwin's evolution. I told them, "Your God is not real. If he was, why would he allow what is happening in Africa and the Middle East to continue?" I left Dominica on the 6th of April, 2006 for St. Thomas. A friend picked me up at the airport and as I entered the vehicle I was greeted with the words, "I hope you brought clothes for church". He then started talking to me about God. I thought to myself, "I left Keith and Michael and came right back into this God story". So out of courtesy and respect I went to church the Sunday 7th April, 2006, and met Pastor Estrada, a long time friend. He preached and as he preached I saw my life's story unfolding before me. I spoke to myself and said, "If you think you are talking to me you are making a big mistake!" But as I tried to convince myself that there was no God and that Darwin was right about evolution, the power of God overwhelmed me and I could not hold myself back. Trying to decipher how I arrived at the altar is still a mystery to me. I walked right past the people standing at the altar and stood directly in front of the pastor and as he laid his hands on me I felt I was lifted by a force and a feeling of joy and happiness filled me like I had never felt before. After church I went home and sat on the bed contemplating on what I had just done and a voice spoke to me saying, "Archie you still don't believe in God". Then I said, "God you know I don't believe in you, but if you are real show me". I instantly fell into a deep sleep for about four hour. When I awoke I knew he was real. He had just shown me that I was a new creature. I was once held by Satan's chains imprisoned by my sins. Jesus Christ delivered me and made me new within. If you are reading this testimony and are still held captive by your sins, Jesus Christ can do the same for you. Just trust Him, surrender your life to Him, believe in Him and He will make you a new creature. He did it for me; He will do it for you. Archibald Samuel |
